Worlds Ugliest Dog Competition
Ugly really? I don’t think so… The winner of Animal Planets 2009 Worlds Ugliest Dog was Pabst a wrinkly, brown, boxer mix with a large two inch under bite. Pabst was adopted from a shelter by owner Miles Egstad.
I guess they wanted a different kind of dog to win this year. Last year’s winner and a favorite of the judges has been the Chinese Crested dogs. The 2008 winner was Rascal a 7lb brown hairless Chinese Crested dog with white spots on his legs. The only hair he has is a white fluffy tuft on his head, a few more hairs on his brown face and a tiny fluffy piece on his tail. To top his winning looks off he has a tongue that hangs out because of some missing front teeth.
Rascal is from a long line of Ugliest Dog Champions. His great grandfather had a record for being in the ugliest dog competitions, his mother won it as well. Rascal was a rescue dog. His owner Dane Andrew thinks he is the most handsome guy. Rascal and Andrews have been on TV shows, horror movies, and Andrew even received a star on the walk of fame. Dane Andrew’s says Rascal is the most amazing animal.
This annual competition is held in Petaluma, CA and is part of the fair. The Worlds Ugliest Dog wins $1000.00 and can be viewed on animal planet. The competition was meant to be poking fun of the dog shows that pick the most beautiful dogs. Sometimes as well as being voted the ugliest they have amazing stories behind them as well.
Worlds Oldest Dog:
The world’s oldest dog turned 21 on May 6, 2009 and was featured on the Today show. Her name is Chanel and is a mixed breed Dachshund. If she were human she would be 120 years old according to the Today show but the Guinness Book of World Records says she is 147 but the important thing, is she is in pretty good health. Her only real problem is getting cold easily and cataracts which she wears special glasses for. Wish I could speak dog and learn all her secrets.
Chanel had a birthday party at the New York Dog Spa & Hotel which was hosted by Dogswell pet food company who produces the treats that her owners say has helped her live such a long life. Chanel and her owners Denise and Karl Shaugnessey were presented with the certificate by the Guinness World Records as the oldest dog.
Worlds Smallest Dog:
Think you have the world’s smallest dog in length? Think again unless your dog in shorter than 6 inches (15.2 cm). If your dog is shorter than that in length you better contact the Guinness World Records. Heaven Sent Brandy is a female Chihuahua and lives in sunny LargoFlorida. She better stay out of the waves.
Longest Dog Ears:
I know you’re wondering so I just had to end this with the longest dog ears on record, according to the record masters Guinness World Records. It may not be a surprise that this is a Bloodhound called Tigger. He’s ready to impress the girl pooches with a generous ear measurement of 13.75 inches (34.9 cm) and 13.5 inches (34.2 cm). Nice ears but I have to wonder how many times a day does he trip on them?

Thanks for that. I wish you had had the photographs too. Though perhaps the video was enough. I do feel sorry though of what we have done to man's best friend through selective breeding. Fancy a breed where every baby is delivered by caeserian section.
